Codegarden 2024
3rd July, 2024
Some thoughts and pictures from Codegarden 2024!
Last month I had the privilege to attend Codegarden, the annual Umbraco conference in Odense Denmark, and it was absolutely brilliant! So I thought I should write a little bit about the week, and share some pictures!
Shoutout to my employer Method4, a big thank you for sending me!
Tuesday
On Tuesday I attended an awesome workshop about building extensions in the new Umbraco 14 backoffice, which Phil Whittaker and Jon Whitter ran!
This workshop was brilliant, I learnt a lot about Web Components, contexts, vite, and the new way of doing APIs! It answered a lot of questions I had about the new way to make backoffice extensions, and I'm honestly now quite excited to start converting my old backoffice extensions!
The repo used in the workshop, and the slides, are available on GitHub: https://github.com/whitter/umbraco-14-workshop
After the workshop, we popped into a street food market called Storms; to grab some food before the pre-party, and wow! what an awesome place! There were so many different food outlets and bars, it took me ages to decide what I wanted!
Then onto the pre-party! Where we delivered Method4's pull request of some Welsh beers!
And the only other photo I have from the pre-party is of a Polish vodka, which was really, really nice! But unfortunately, I have no other pictures... not even of the robot man or the Rave Ravi Cave... Sorry!
Wednesday
And now it's time for Codegarden! I won't give a play-by-play of everything that happened, but it was freaking awesome! I learnt a lot (especially about the new backoffice), met a lot of awesome people, both new and old, ate a lot of good food, and played a lot of Hammerschlagen!
Thursday
And Thursday was more Hammerschlagen, a mechanical bull, more incredible talks, bingo and the after-party!
Honestly, Codegarden was brilliant, it was so nice seeing everyone, high-fiving, playing hammerschlagen, learning, and catching up with people I haven't seen in ages! Codegarden is honestly a testament to how friendly and welcoming the Umbraco community is, I've never met a more friendly bunch of people in my life!
Although, one thing I do regret is not taking more selfies with people! If I'm lucky enough to go again next year, I'll definitely be bringing my selfie stick!
